一向好喜歡聽女聲，歌手又好、Band 又好，甚至是電音中加一把女聲，我就會好開心的了。今次和大家分享一下加拿大的 Indie Pop 組合 - Alvvays。
Alvvays 由 Molly Rankin（女主音／結他）、Kerri MacLellan（鍵琴）、Alec O'Hanley（結他）、Brian Murphy（低音結他）Phil MacIsaac（鼓）在 2011 年組成。Molly 自少就是音樂世家成長了，她是加拿大著名 Celtic Folk Music 家族 The Rankin Family 成員 John Morris Rankin 的女兒；和 Kerri 小時候就是鄰居了，會一起會樂器；Molly 後來認識了 Alec，在 2010 年 Alec 為 Molly 製作了專輯《She》，之後 Alvvays 就正式成立了。
認識他們的過程，都是因為音樂網 Fringe Music Fix，他們有很多種類的音樂介紹，網站的 2015 年「最值得推介音樂 List」中，Alvvays 排在首位，也正正是我首先看到《Archie, Marry Me》MV...
除了覺得 Molly 靚（我個個女生都話靚的 XD），Alvvays 的歌很活潑很率性，節奏輕快之餘，歌詞也很直率，開頭一句「You've expressed explicitly your contempt for matrimony」說出了男孩謝婚姻的鄙視，接著一句「You've student loans to pay and will not risk the alimony（贍養費）」幽默之餘也透出點點現實的殘酷。但女生的回應卻是我這類 Hopelessly Romantic 毒男最聽得感動的，除了「Marry Me Archie」，再安撫了男生「I won't set my sights on other seas, there is no need to panic」她心裡不會有別人；「So honey take me by the hand and we can sign some papers」需牽著手去簽一些（結婚）文件；「Forget the invitations, floral arrangements and bread makers」不用再理會請帖、花、結婚蛋糕等等，老實說，是多麼的理想主義啊！「They're talking about us living in sin」也不介意，試問現在有多少女生／家人是不著重儀式的呢？感情／愛情才是兩人之間最重要的事啊。可能會說我天真，但《Archie, Marry Me》令我立刻去買了 Alvvays 的同名專輯回來。
專輯已是 2014 年推出的了，聽完整張後會發現 9 首歌訴說了一段感情關係的變化，由開始到結束，開始的兩三首歌《Adult Diversion》、《Archie, Marry Me》和《Ones Who Love You》都是在訴說著由開始去認識對象、為對方做任何事，找真正愛自己的人去愛，表達自己真性情等等，但及後歌詞起了變化，如《Next of Kin》，「If I had known you couldn't swim we would never have gone in」，的能到這是一個比喻，是一段關係雙方開始有不確定性存在了，也開始發現其中一方跟不上另一方的節奏，「I left my love in the river...I lost his hand in the current...」最後更任由愛人在河裡死去，「It was the life I wanted and I hoped for」這代表了有一方暗地想要脫離這關係；「And now I'm left sifting through the trees」，是代表了她／他想 Move On 去找其他更適合的人？每人對詞有不同的解讀，但個人覺得這就是一段感情走下坡的開始。
到《Party Police》就更是令人覺得 Sad 的，由 Molly 唱出「Fighting through the fog, I can't believe it rained all summer long. When every day's a hurricane, you know there's something wrong」女生和男生沒有了那份 Connection，失去感情後仍在思考為何會這樣；同時，也失去了自我，女生想對男生說「You don't have to leave, you could just stay here with me. Forget all the party police（即道德 L）, we can find comfort in debauchery（放蕩）」女生並未想完全放棄，即使雙方的感情已近消失殆盡，唯有以性來維持關係... 歌中也來了幽默的一句「Forget all the local police, we can find comfort in biology.」（是野外露出打真軍也在所不惜嗎？）
專輯後段的《The Agency Group》、《Dives》、《Atop A Cake》都是繼續訴說男女雙方的關係不斷破裂，更多的不理解，「You know that it won't take much longer now that I'll be gone. It's gone, the sun is gone」。到最後一首《Red Planet》可以說是最概念性、有著科幻感的情傷歌，在《Ones Who Love You》女生就要「成為太空人」於《Red Planet》一開首就是「It's been almost twenty years on the Red Planet. A place where there are no tears, it is just water floating.
No, they're not quite emoting」用去了火星有水作比喻，形容自己對這份感情「已哭不出淚水」了，「I dream of the other days, of the times I held you」很明顯表達了男女兩人已不再是情侶，但仍在記掛對方，不過一切都已變得虛無飄渺了「Well I waited for you out here, but that was just delusional」。而去到最後，兩人似是仍不了解對方在想甚麼「And I've painted all these pictures of Earth, but that's unusual. Unusual to you」，也表達出兩人的距離比南轅北徹更加遠，是地球和火星之隔...《Red Planet》也是整張專輯中實驗感最重的，和其他的 Band Sound 味有所不同，放在收尾一曲令聽者有驚喜呢。

Alvvays 的歌風有著 80 年代的 Jangle Pop 之感，而聽著 Molly Rankin 有一點 Detach 的聲線和看著歌詞，會聯想起另一隊樂隊 - 蘇格蘭的 Camera Obscura（小弟遲些分享），而的確 Molly 也曾說過她喜歡 CO 女主音 Tracyanne Campbell 「悲情的眼界」（fondness for the pathetic perspective）的感覺。Anyway，非常期待 Alvvays 的第二張專輯！
